Row/column shortcuts

When working with tables, there is often a need to manipulate rows and columns, and it is adding, deleting, hiding, or displaying hidden rows or columns. Manipulation is usually done by selecting some of the options from the Home toolbar, but there are several shortcuts that can help us perform these operations much faster.

Shortcuts for moving and selection

Excel shortcuts for moving and selection are the ones you will use to a large extent in everyday work. You have no choice: when working with tables, these are most commonly performed operations, and if you apply shortcuts, they will make you considerably more productive. Productivity is a consequence of faster work, as most tasks can be done exclusively using the keyboard. Especially when you use a laptop, because when you are on the go, you may not have the favorite programmer’s pet at hand.

Quick formatting shortcuts

In everyday work, we often enter numbers, and then we format the way they are displayed within the cell. This is usually done by activating the Format Cells option, from the Home ribbon or by using the CTRL + 1 shortcut, and then choosing some of the cell content display options that are integrated into the Number tab. But since in practice we are dealing with just a few formats of a number record, it is much more useful to use shortcuts to quickly format content.

Universal shortcuts

Excel shortcuts are often unfairly neglected, although their daily use achieves a higher speed in operation, which makes us much more productive. Experienced users make use of shortcuts. The good news is that most of the shortcuts are of universal nature and can be applied in most Windows programs. If you teach them, you will become much more effective working with any of them! Here we will mention some of those most commonly used in practice.

Formatting cell content

In addition to content, each cell is characterized by a format that aims to highlight some of its features. For example, the header of the table should be in some way highlighted, with any different font, font style or a different background color; rows could also be colored with different colors, for better visibility; numbers may have a number of decimals … The text that follows will describe ways to format the contents of a cell.
