Dynamic slicers

Slicers are visuals, graphic objects that enable filtering of pages or entire reports. They usually have fixed values. By introducing Power BI report parameters, when parameterizing according to fields, it is possible to set dynamic slicers which we can use to display visuals with different content. For example we can choose whether should track sales by manufacturer, brand, classification or sales group…

To begin with, we need to import a dataset that contains sales data. Next, let’s go to the Modeling ribbon and enter the New Parameter menu.

Next, select the Fields option. A window will open in which we first give the parameter a name, and then determine the dimensions based on which their value is chosen.

After confirming the selection, the parameter is created. A slicer will be automatically created with the dimensions we added. We can immediately format the slicer as a Tile, add a gray background, border, shadow…

Then we add the stacke column chart visual. On the y-axis, it should show the sums of sold quantities, and on the x-axis, the months. In the Legend field, we will add the parameter created a while ago. By clicking on the slicer, you will change the criteria for creating the graph, and thus its appearance.
