Filtering the Pivot table report can also be done with the help of interactive filters, which are: slicers timeline. These are graphics objects that can be used, both with Pivot tables and structured tables. Slicers are made on the basis of the specified reporting dimension, and can be interlinked, according to the principle of subordinates and superiors. Timeline filters are made exclusively based on time-related reporting dimensions.
We can insert slicers in several ways: from the Insert ribbon, from the Analyze ribbon, or by using the context menu, right-clicking on some of the reporting dimensions that are suitable for creating the filters. They are added by clicking on the Slicers option, and after its launch, the Insert Slicer dialog box will open, on which you need to select the report dimension, based on which we want to filter the Pivot table using the slicer. After selecting a dimension, it will appear on the worksheet.
By clicking on the slicer, the filtering of the table is being done, and by clicking on the icon at the top right corner, the filters are removed. Filtering is performed by selecting one or more values from the slicer. If we have multiple slicers that are tied to the same data source, after filtering first on the second (subordinated slicer), the choice of those options for which there are no data in the original table is disabled.
After creating a slicer the Options context ribbon will appear. It contains various options for adjusting properties of slicers. The Slicer Caption field is used to give a name to the slicer, in the same way as we would give the name Pivot table. Clicking Slicer Settings will open a dialog box with several options for customizing its properties. By clicking Report Connections, we can set up the report with which he is connected, based on which it also connects more than one slicer. A Slicer Styles group can be used to select a slicer style, and they also offer standard options for working with graphic objects, which allow us to change dimensions, position, or align them with other objects.
Timeline is a slicer that is made based on some time-related dimensions. It is created in the same way as a classic slicer (by clicking on the appropriate option in the Insert or Analyze ribbon), and similar rules apply to it, with an additional menu in the upper right corner that allows you to set whether the display is in Days, Months, Quarters, or Years. Also, as with the slicer, you can select multiple values (days, months, quarters, years) or a specific time interval, which automatically filters the table.
