Options for document recovery
PowerBI Desktop is an ever-evolving application. Although rarely, it may happen that it freezes, so you need to “kill” it by entering Task Manager, by pressing the CTRL + ALT + DEL key combination and exiting the active process. The novelty is that while working in the background, a document is being saved, so if a crash occurs, Power BI Desktop will offer you the option to restore the last version.
To make this option active, I suggest you check the settings (File/Options & Settings/Options). On the Auto recovery page, you can set the autosave interval, and whether the recording will take place every time you exit the document without saving it. In this window it is possible to adjust the path of the folder where such documents are stored, as well as open the folder for viewing the saved documents.
If an application freezes, the next time you start Power BI Desktop, the Auto Recovery window opens in which you can see the file name.
If you choose to close this window another notification will appear asking you to further confirm whether you want to recover or delete the backup files.
Although this is a useful option, my recommendation is that you still save your projects on a regular basis.
