Power BI groups

Power BI groups enable grouping of data within visuals for more efficient reporting. Depending on the type of dimension present in the visual (category or measure), it is possible to group parts of the report by default categories (Lists) or reporting segments (Bins). It is also possible to create groups of data and as well view a group which contains other series (Others). You will find out more about this in the following „recipe“ …

After creating PowerBI chart should choose one or more of its value and to add them to the group. This functionality is similar to the option Calculated Items in traditional pivot tables. We perform this by highlighting the values in the chart, for example categories salamis, pates and sausages, and right-click over one of them opens a context menu where you need to choose the option Group.00187-1

When you have created a group you can also adjust some other settings. Do this from Modelling ribbon by choosing Edit Groups whose initiation opens a window in which can add or remove items from the group and make further adjustments. The group that has been created will appear among reporting dimensions, where you can access it or delete if necessary.00187-2

Numeric and date fields can be used to perform grouping by equal-sized segments- Bins. It is performed by choosing a dimension e.g. date, right-click and choose New Group. A window opens in which you can enter the name and size of the bin, as well as its size.00187-3

Now, if you create additional chart, further add sum of quantities to Values, and DATUM (bins) to Axis you will get a report that shows sales by chosen segments- months!00187-4
