Importing a table from the Internet

Importing a table from the Internet is a useful Excel option that came at the wrong time. Sometimes, when web designers created pages using the TABLE structure, the tabular data was in the tables (where they should be). Today, the approach to making web sites has changed, so DIV tags are used to display tabular data, which for some reason can not be recognized by Excel. Hence this option has limited application capability.

To retrieve data from an Internet site, containing tables, you first need to go to the Data ribbon and then select From Web option that belongs to Get External Data group. A window with a simple Internet browser will open, where you first need to enter the hyperlink of the page from where the data is retrieved. Once the page has opened, in some of its sections the icon with the yellow arrow on the right will appear. Each of these sections is what Excel sees as a table and where we can potentially download data. By clicking on one of the arrows, we mark the section and a green icon with a checkmark will appear instead of the indicated icon. By clicking the Import button, a window will appear first in which we specify where we want to import the data. And then, after confirmation, the data from the web site will be imported to the desired location in the worksheet.
