Keep or discard?

If you have used Power Query, you know that it has options that allow you to keep or discard certain columns. If you’re an Excel user coming through a Microsoft 365 subscription, there are a few new functions available to you to do a similar thing. As a result they create a dynamic array with columns or rows extracted from a given matrix that are retained or discarded.

Although Power Pivot reports still have advantages over the Matrix visual, in charge of displaying a table with a high level of detail, Microsoft persuades us day after day that Power BI will be able to carry this field as well as its “older brother”. The following text discusses the drill-down techniques used in Matrix visual and how to apply them to the selected detail, and are available since November 2018.

Grouping of rows and columns

When we work with large tables containing the subtotals according to categories (article classification, sales program, type of partner, etc.), we can perform a grouping by to one of the given criteria. Grouping can be done by rows or columns, and the goal is to make the report more transparent. That is, if necessary, we can display or hide the analytical elements of the report in order for the data to take up less space.
