Geography & Stocks

Excel has not changed essentially from its origin, and one of its features is that it does not have data types other than text and numbers. All other (derived) types are only differently formatted numbers. In this respect, Excel 2019 (O365) brings two new types: Stocks and Geography. Since it is unlikely that any of you will be trading on stock exchange, this “recipe” will most of the time deal with geographical data and their application.

Filled maps

Excel 2019 has got a new type of maps that we can use to illustrate the data from the spreadsheets we’ve made. Actually, this is just another chart that we can add from Insert ribbon or after launching the Recommended Charts option. It allows us to create filled maps, where each country from the given dataset is filled by a color according to given values.

Power BI Desktop visuals

Purpose of PowerBI Desktop application is to create reports on a local machine and publish them in the cloud for users who can see them anytime, at any moment, by Internet browser on a PC or a mobile device. Managers need to get clear, simple and visually nice reports. It seems that PowerBI meets all given criteria. In a text that follows I will describe various ways to create reports in PowerBI Desktop.
