Summarizing in gross

The old word angro, sometimes used in the Serbian language, comes from the French term “en gros” which means “in gross”, “wholesale” … It served me as the inspiration for the title, and in the text I want to show you advanced possibilities when using the SUM function. Let’s see in what, not very common, ways we can give it arguments and summarize the data.

Worksheet background

When we make reports, the goal is for them to be both functional and beautiful. Their background can also contribute to the appearance of the worksheet in a positive way. It is a picture that is placed behind the tables, charts, and other elements of the report. If after hiding it, we also hide lines separating cells (Gridlines) reports will look like they were not created in Excel. But, more importantly, users will be able to easily find the necessary information.

Hyperlinks

We meet the hyperlinks every day while surfing the Internet, and they have long time ago become part of Office applications. In Excel, this is often an unfairly ignored functionality. In addition to allowing you to go to an Internet presentation or write a letter to the specified e-mail address, a link can also be used to create a new document or position it on a prefix in an existing document.

Link to other Excel documents

When making reports, multiple Excel documents are often used. As you know, data in another worksheet or other document, if it is open, we can easily access by specifying the absolute address of a cell or cell range. But what if we want to access a closed document? And can Excel be used as a data repository? About the link to other Excel files more in the text that follows.

Protecting workbook and worksheet

At every company there are certain data that should be kept secret. Also, sometimes we do not want everyone to be able to edit the document, especially when it comes to corporate reports that should have a unique form. Since Excel is a tool frequently used for budgets or as a tool for interpreting business reports, it’s important to know how to protect individual worksheet elements, the structure of the workbook, and the workbook as a whole.
