Conditional formatting of charts

Conditional formatting is not new feature, but so far Power BI users have been able to use it exclusively in visuals that contain some sort of table. The novelty brought by the improved version of the november 2018 is that the Saturation field has been abolished, and the option for conditional formatting has been added instead. Let’s see what it brings!

Relationship view

Power BI, similar to Power Pivot, has a look at the tables and their relationships. Its advantage is that, from the very beginning, automatically detects relations between tables based on the name of the column that it discoveres as keys. From November 2018 the new, significantly enhanced Relationship view is offered, so in the following text it will be about what are its features and what is new.

Details in Matrix visual

Although Power Pivot reports still have advantages over the Matrix visual, in charge of displaying a table with a high level of detail, Microsoft persuades us day after day that Power BI will be able to carry this field as well as its “older brother”. The following text discusses the drill-down techniques used in Matrix visual and how to apply them to the selected detail, and are available since November 2018.

Export of documents

We are accustomed, when we want to change the type of Excel document, to save it under another name. However, in some recent versions of Excel, this operation is further facilitated. If we enter the Backstage view there we will find the Export menu that allows you to export directly to PDF or change the file type. Also, you can also directly add documents to Power BI.

Trigonometric functions

If you are someone who likes mathematics it will be useful for you to know that Excel has a lot of trigonometric functions, and we can use them whenever is necessary to plot your sinusoids. These are the functions of SIN (sine), COS (cosine), TAN (tangent), COT (cotangent), and there are many others as well. If you are curious you can easily find them in the Excel function library. How to draw a sinusoid?
